Explore Sex Talk and Audio Porn, You Sexy Hero!
Teela Hudak is working to help people find the most fulfilling and best sex of their lives through her venture, Explore Sex Talk. Based in Vancouver, Canada, Explore Sex Talk educates people about sex, relationships, sexuality, gender, and consent. My Sex Bio had the chance to talk with her about sexuality and gender bias, as well as audio porn as a growing art form. This is what she had to say:
MSB: How did Explore Sex Talk get started? And what motivates you to keep going?
TH: I started sex education back in 2011 with another project, Keeping it Kinky. After years of educating people about BDSM and kink fantasies, in 2016, I realized people struggled with sexuality as a whole and not just exploring the kink domains. I decided it was time to widen the focus of what I teach. As I've continued doing this work, people have come forward and asked for help and guidance. They have really highlighted the importance of having sex-positive and comprehensive sex education available.
MSB: We believe that taboos hinder talking about sex and expressing our sexuality. How do you feel that gender bias has shaped the way you understand your sexuality?
TH: By understanding that people are socialized to think about sex very differently from a very young age. Educating myself about sex, gender and relationships has highlighted where I have erred in my past relationships. Understanding gender bias has helped me develop my own sense of sexuality and how healthy relationships are formed and maintained.
MSB: How do you think it shapes our society as a whole?
TH: Gender bias impacts our expectations of how people do and should behave. We make assumptions about people's behavior and how they present themselves based on it. All of these can lead to setting limitations of what we feel people can and will do. This includes ourselves.
MSB: How have you, personally, experienced gender bias in your own life? How can we work to overcome that bias and the double standards it leads to?
TH: Honestly, I try not to focus a lot on limitations placed on me by others. I focus more on things within my control and how I can improve on my own. Education and conversation is the key to all social change. The more we can get people to engage in thoughtful conversations and digest content that teaches them about privilege and bias, the more chances we have to change minds.
MSB: Let's talk about audio porn now. Do you have any experience with this?
TH: I actually do a series called "Erotica Slam," a form of audio porn, for my Sexy Hero Society members. Erotica Slam is a play on the term Poetry Slam. This series is only available to my exclusive members of the Sexy Hero Society. I do leave it open for people to submit their own erotica for me to read and set to music. Those who are blind don't have a lot of options for erotica, so I see audio porn as increasing their accessibility. I have mostly been exploring it as another unique and interesting thing that I can offer my Sexy Hero members. Aside from that, I have not had a lot of experience with audio porn.
MSB: Do you see it as a growing art form?
TH: On the principle of different strokes for different folks, I think there is potential for this type of porn. There will always be people whom it doesn't do anything for. But it will appeal to some people. It's really about finding the right audience.
MSB: Do you think that audio porn could be a response to the many unethical porn productions?
TH: I think the response to unethical porn production is accountability and ethics being enforced in the porn industry.
