Friday Five: Coming Out

This month we are featuring 5 queer artists, activists and authors to follow and support!! <3

John Paul Brammer is ann LGBTQ advice columnist and newly published author of a hilarious memoir-essay journey detailing his adventures as a Latino gay man growing up in Oklahoma.

@mysexbio This week's queer feature: author John Paul Brammer. This #pridemonth🏳️‍🌈 we want to invite you to consider the impact that the media and any form of art we consume can have in the ways we build our narratives around what #gender #humansexuality #relationships and #intimacy are supposed to look like. Today's invitation: be open to intentionally include in your library books, movies, music and any form of art you enjoy written, directed or produced by #queer folks. Whether you belong to the community or not, this can be a freeing experience. #foryourpage #freedom #authenticity #genderbias #lgbt🌈 #lgbtqia #recommendedbooks ♬ original sound - My Sex Bio

Some reminders if you’re toying with the idea of officially “Coming Out” taken from our blog:

🌈Do it for yourself, not others—at your own time and on your own terms, there’s no need to rush. There’s no determinate moment in life to come out.

🌈Let go of expectations. Whoever you confide in is responsible for their reaction, not you. There’s no way to know for sure how someone is going to respond until it actually happens.

🌈Know that it is a gradual thing, you don’t need to come out to EVERYONE at once. Start where you feel safe (sometimes friends are easier to talk with, sometimes strangers, sometimes family or a counselor).

🌈Understand that coming out isn’t a one-time thing, you’ll do it over and over again in life, and hopefully, it’ll be easier each time. Once you’ve done it, you keep doing it but more naturally.

And if you’re lucky enough to have a close friend come out to you? Read here.
