Friday Five: Elemental Wellness
This month we’re exploring sexual wellness inspired by the elements—fire, water, earth and air.
Keep reading for 5 ways the element of fire can inspire your sex life.
Hello Leo
We are in the season of the confident Lion, and the only astrological sign that is ruled by the sun. During these weeks we’re especially connected to our fiery power and encouraged to radiate it outward. Confidence is sexy, so own it!
2. Hot Hues
Color psychology is an ancient cultural theory that certain colors will influence your moods.
"In both animals and humans, red can indicate the release of hormones associated with aggression and serve as a signal of dominance to others," says Jennifer Hettema, PhD. "In fact, many studies have documented a 'red effect' whereby athletes or teams that wear red seem to have a slight advantage when compared to other colors.”
Try decorating yourself in red—lipstick, jewelry, clothing—whenever you need a little extra confidence boost.
3. Light me up
Fire is the most mesmerizing element that can be seductively harnessed in the bedroom. You can start with lighting candles and holding them close to the skin. If you want to take it a step further, pour the hot wax slowly on yourself/partners to stimulate neuroreceptors under the skin and provoke a sensual reaction.
4. Sauna sessions
Sweating is a savior for the body. Sitting in a sauna even just once a week can help to detox your skin, improve circulation, boost muscle recovery and relieve stress. A 2018 study suggests that sauna use can also have a positive effect on testosterone levels.
“The heat and humidity of a sauna can help stimulate your body’s natural defenses, which can help fight off infections and illnesses.”
— Dr. Justin Houman, Men’s Health Urologist
Feeling your best from the inside out can lead to longer, more fulfilling sexy time sessions.
5. Nice Spice
Ginger is considered a “hot energetic herb” because of its stimulating properties that spice up your body! This powerhouse root can increase serotonin and dopamine, reduce inflammation and boost your digestion. Slice up pieces to add to your smoothie, lemonade or cocktail.
