Friday Five: Grouding Pleasure
This month we’re delving into sexual wellness inspired by the elements—fire, water, earth and air.
Here are 5 ways to weave more of the earth element into your sex life.
Grounding
A 2018 study found people who meditate tend to have more sexual desire and better sexual functioning than people who don't.
When one practices mindfulness regularly, one is more likely to live with activated senses and be more present during sexual experiences. Being “bodyful” allows for connection to our emotional body and deepens our understanding of our needs and ability to express them through our body.
Try this Guided Body Scan meditation along with your daily morning routine, or before engaging in sexual sessions.
2. Rituals
Creating rituals is a mindful way to honor the important phases and experiences in your life. Start by checking in with how you're feeling now and then ask yourself how you’d like to feel. Finding ways to close that gap will be your intention.
3. Nourishing Your Body
Preparing a cacao drink is a lovely way to start your ritual. Cacao beans are a rich treat that have been grown and enjoyed since ancient times. The beans are ground and made into a delightful drink that is known to boost mood, energy levels and is a natural aphrodisiac. Prepare this simple recipe with organic cacao powder.
1 scoop of cacao powder
1 cinnamon stick
1 dash of cayenne pepper
1 ground cardamom pod
1-3 cups of water
1 cup of plant-based milk
Mix all ingredients together on medium heat, then simmer for a few minutes while you speak your positive intention into the pot. Be careful not to let it boil. Add honey and serve!
4. Rooted in Balance
Maca and ginseng roots are superpower adaptogenic herbs that can boost sexual health by improving blood flow, energy levels and regulating hormones.
“Maca is often used to balance hormones for women, and can boost libido in both men and women. Ginseng is offered as an herb to aid erectile dysfunction in men.”
Check with your healthcare advisor or nutritionist to see if these might be useful for you!
5. Getting Tested
Stay grounded with your sexual health by getting regular STI testing. If you are partnered, ask them to do the same. If you feel uncomfortable asking, share your results with them as a way to start the conversation.
